Herman Wendell "Jimmy" James, Jr. passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, April 14, 2021. Born April 24, 1936, in Cabin Creek, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Herman Wendell James, Sr. and Judith Elizabeth Thompson. After serving in the United States Marine Corps, he obtained his graduate degree from Duke University. Jimmy had a successful career in international sales and retired from the Maytag Corporation in 1994. He continued his business career by consulting with numerous successful organizations, to include Columbia Blowfish Baseball and Columbia Inferno Hockey.
While still in college, he met the love of his life, Barbara H. James, who was attending the University of South Carolina. They were married for 29 years, until her passing in 1993.
Jimmy is survived by his children, Joni James (Brett), of Columbia, SC; Tracy James Harden (Tawn) and granddaughter, Taylor, of Blythewood, SC; son, Herman Wendell "Buddy" James, III and granddaughter, Jessica, and grandsons, Jacob and Tristan, of Elgin, SC; daughter, Perdita James, and great grandchildren, Jordan and Ethan; of NC; sister, Coralene Marie "Corky" Berry, of Hopkins, SC; as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Janet Lee Young and a granddaughter, Crystal Sweat.
A private graveside service was held on Saturday, April 17th at Woodridge Memorial Park, 138 Corley Mill Rd, Lexington, SC.
Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, SC, assisted the family.
