Hollie Gilbert Brooks, 88, of Columbia, passed away on Friday, October 13, 2023. Born on September 11, 1935, in Fairfield County, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Watson Cyril Brooks and Ada Catherine Crossland.

Hollie attended high school in Columbia and was a self-employed taxi driver with Blue Ribbon Cab Company. He was a US Army veteran and served his country honorably as an infantryman both stateside and in Germany. Hollie loved shooting pool, often competing in local tournaments throughout the midlands. Hollie was an avid sports fan who especially enjoyed cheering on the Atlanta Braves.

Survivors include his son, Robert Edward Brooks; sisters, Catherine Marveen Dixon (Ronald) and Trissher Donnan, as well numerous nieces and nephews who loved him very much.

The funeral service for Mr. Brooks will be held at 2 o'clock, Monday, October 16th at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext, Columbia, SC with Pastor Charlie Young officiating. Burial will follow at Royal Pines Cemetery, Chatham Forest Rd, Winnsboro, SC 29180. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service beginning at 1 o'clock.
