Homer Lee Hagood, 75, of Columbia, passed away Monday, August 6, 2012. He was born on June 23, 1937 in Blythewood, SC, a son of the late Clifton Marion and Mary Howell Hagood. Homer served in the US Army, and was employed for 40 years with the Shakespeare Company. He enjoyed reading western novels, fishing the Wateree River, gardening and cookouts. Homer was an enthusiastic cruiser traveler. The most significant part of his life was his family.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Melton Hagood; his children, Gloria (Keith) Menz of Columbia, Helen (Robert) Williams of Blythewood, Teresa (Howard) Leitner and James (Rhonda) Hagood of Columbia; grandchildren, Christopher Menz, Sherri Williams, Matthew Williams, Tia Rindfleisch, and Jennifer Williams, Lara Ann Leitner; seven great grandchildren, and five step-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Homer was preceded in death by his grandson, Justin Menz.
The funeral service for Mr. Hagood will be held 10:30 am, Thursday, August 9th, at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, 5202 Colonial Dr, Columbia. Burial will follow at Noon at Ft. Jackson National Cemetery with military honors. The Rev. Jerry Long of Shandon Baptist Church is ministering to the family and will officiate the service. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o'clock, Wednesday evening, at the funeral home.
