Obituary

Homer Jackson "Bud" Walton, Jr., 78, died Friday, November 18, 2016. Mr. Walton was born in Birmingham, Alabama, the son of Homer Jackson and Zera King Walton. He was educated in the public schools of Columbiana, Alabama, and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Birmingham-Southern College. He received a Master of Arts degree in Music and a Master of Science degree in Library and Information Science, both from the Florida State University. After working in the FSU Library, he moved to Columbia in 1969 to establish a music library at the University of South Carolina. He continued his work in the USC Libraries for 34 years as Head, Cataloging Department, and Head, Technical Services. He was a part time trainer for the Department of Human Resources. He retired from the University in 2003.

Mr. Walton is survived by cousins, Gilbert Fitzgerald of Jupiter, Florida, John Fitzgerald of Alpharetta, Georgia, Robin Fitzgerald Fortner, and her son, Ethan Fortner, of Troy, Alabama. Burial will be private. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210, or to the charity of your choice.
