Homer Anthony Wofford, Sr., 92, of Blythewood, died Sunday, March 22, 2015. Born in Gaffney, SC on April 12, 1922, he was the son of the late William Smith Wofford and Hattie Peeler Wofford. He was a member of Sandy Level Baptist Church, and served with distinction in the US Army during WWII, the Korean Conflict, and the Vietnam War. A 32nd Degree Mason and member of the Scottish Rite, Homer treasured his friends in the Blythewood Masonic Lodge #395. Most of all, he enjoyed his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, by whom he will be deeply missed.
Homer is survived by his son, Herb W. (Billie) Wofford; daughter, Kathy D. (Jim) Wollgast; grandsons, Christopher Michael (Alice) Wofford, Thomas Scott Wofford, and AJ Wollgast; great-grandchildren, Harrison Wayne Wofford, Donovan Shane Wofford, Olivia Annelle Wofford, and Laura Campbell Wofford; and sister, Ruby Wofford Painter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Stancil Wofford; a son, Homer A. "Tony" Wofford, Jr.; brothers, Aaron Wofford, Francis Wofford, and Herbert Wofford; and sister, Catherine Wofford Davis.
A graveside service for Mr. Wofford will be held at 11:30 o'clock, Wednesday, March 25th, at Sandy Level Baptist Church, 408 Blythewood Road, with The Rev. Chris Hanley officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 10 o'clock in the Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sandy Level Baptist Church Building Fund, PO Box 518, Blythewood, SC 29016.
