Ina Dee Resendez, 88, of Columbia, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 10, 2024. Born on December 18, 1935, in Russellville, Tennessee, Ina was the cherished daughter of Hugh and Rebecca Long. She was predeceased by her husband, Reynaldo Resendez, whom she shared 58 wonderful years of marriage filled with love, devotion, and resilience, which never faded after his passing.
Family was the cornerstone of Ina's life and she poured her heart into raising a close-knit and loving family with Reynaldo. Their legacy of kindness and strength will continue through their three children, Agnes Slayman (Rob) of Elgin SC, Michael Resendez (Kay) of Clover SC, and Dennis Resendez (Pam) of Elgin SC. Ina is survived by three grandchildren, Ryan Resendez (Haley), Travis Resendez (Paige), Tyler Resendez and four great-grandchildren. Ina remained close to her family and was predeceased by brothers, James Walter (JW) Long and Hubert (Guy) Long. She is survived by her sister, Janie Hope (Bill), and brothers, Hal Long (Peggy) and Darrell Long (Debbie).
Ina dedicated her life to serving others. She was a proud veteran, having served in the Women's Army Corps before graduating from the University of South Carolina, School of Nursing; ultimately retiring after serving as the head nurse of the Outpatient Surgery department at Richland Memorial Hospital. Ina's compassion and professionalism left a lasting mark on her colleagues, physicians, and patients.
Ina loved and lived a full life. She was an enthusiastic sports lover and Gamecock fan who enjoyed football, basketball, fishing, and bowling. Ina also relished the simple joys of watching soap operas, playing pinochle and drinking coffee with friends. Her greatest delight was traveling to Las Vegas with Reynaldo, accompanied by Dennis, where they made numerous memories and shared lots of love and laughter. Ina was a deeply spiritual person whose faith never faltered. Her ultimate joy was at the holidays, especially Christmas, where she decorated, enjoyed cooking for her family, and just being "mom" and "mamaw". Our matriarch, who cherished her family above all else, will be deeply missed and always remembered for her never-ending kindness, devotion, and love.
