Obituary

With deep sorrow, the family of Iris Black Vargas announces her passing on Sunday, July 20, 2025, in Columbia, South Carolina. Born on January 17, 1959, Iris lived a life full of warmth, kindness, and unwavering dedication to her children, grandchildren, and loved ones.

Iris was born and raised in Camden, South Carolina. She grew into a compassionate and bright woman, deeply rooted in her family and the values instilled in her from childhood.

Throughout her life, Iris was known for her loving spirit and loyalty to those she cared about most. She cherished her twin girls and grandchildren more than anything, devoting herself wholeheartedly to their happiness and well-being. Her presence in their lives was a constant source of comfort, strength, and joy.

A woman with a joyful heart, Iris was an avid TikTok user who loved spending her evenings laughing at funny videos and sharing them with those around her. Her sense of humor and light-hearted nature brought joy to many.

Iris is survived by her daughters, Pamela Black Aguilar (Rodolfo) and Samantha Black; her grandchildren, Joey, Jason, Kathy, and Ian; and her brothers, Joel Black (Stephanie) and Dean Black.

She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Rowe Dean Black and Betty Jean Black, and her sister, Vikki Black Mureddu and her nephew, Rowe Dean Black, III.

Iris will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her family finds comfort in the countless memories of her laughter, her stories, and the unconditional love she gave so freely. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched.

The graveside service for Ms. Vargas will be held at 3 o'clock, Thursday, July 24th, in the Serenity Gardens of Greenlawn Memorial Park, 6703 Windwan Drive, Columbia, SC 29209, with Rev. Danny Wilson officiating. A visitation will precede the service at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, from 1:30 until 2:30 o'clock.
