Iva Lee Claxton, 99, of Columbia, passed from this life to meet her Lord and Savior on April 22, 2021.Born March 15, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Homer and Ina Gilmore of Springfield MO. She was married to James G Claxton until his death in November 1988.
Ms. Iva Lee attended Draughon's Business School in Springfield and retired as pastor's assistant at High Street Baptist Church. In 1988, Jim and Iva Lee moved to South Carolina to be close to their only child, Pamela Carroll (Ronald) and grandchild, Todd Carroll (Erin). Later she delighted in her great-grandsons, Hudson, Hayes and James Walker and always enjoyed their company and visits.
She volunteered at Baptist Medical Center where she had many hospital friends. She made knit caps for newborns, delivered mail and flowers, and helped escort patients to their destinations. Additionally, she loved her church family at First Baptist Church of Columbia.
She is survived by her sister, Betty Jo Roy of Springfield MO and her children Steve (JoAnne) Roy of Clayton NC and Greg (Teri) Roy of Rogersville MO along with her niece Kay Rubsam Vaughn of Charlestown IN. She is also survived by her nephew Douglas Claxton and niece Deborah Claxton Brown of Joplin MO. She was predeceased by her husband, Jim, and by her sister Maedean "Becky" Rubsam.
A graveside service for Ms. Iva Lee will be held 2 o'clock, Thursday, April 29, 2021, at Ft Jackson National Cemetery with The Rev. Dr. Steve Roy officiating. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family. All are welcome to attend, however, masks are required and social distancing will be enforced to ensure the safety of those in attendance.
