Mrs. Ivalene Scott Marvin's Obituary

Ivalene "Ivy" Scott Marvin, 90, of Columbia, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on January 10, 2021. While on this earth with us, our precious Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother always had a beautiful smile and faced her physical adversity with grace (Philippians 4:13). Even as her memory failed her, this sweet southern lady always thanked you for calling or coming to see her. She made us smile!

Born in Double Springs, AL, she was a daughter of the late Onan Cluston and Mattie Williams Scott. She graduated valedictorian from Vina High School. She passed on the opportunity to go to college to become the wife of the late Donald E. Marvin. They were married for 50 years before his death in 1999. Mother was a member of North Trenholm Baptist Church and a member of the former Joyful Seekers Sunday School Class and was a helper with the AWANA ministry. She was always involved in a local church from Sheffield, AL to Columbia, SC. She was a strong believer in Proverbs 22:6, because she always had her children active in church and she served in leadership roles in these ministries.

Mother loved to read. She followed a Bible reading plan multiple times to read the entire Bible in a year. She loved Christian fiction. Many friends supplied her with books to read and she would pass them on. Mother loved sports. Like her father, she loved Alabama football. After moving to SC, she and Dad strongly supported the USC Gamecocks. They attended football, basketball, and baseball games and made many road trips to support the teams at away games.

Ivalene is survived by her children Cheryl Shealy (Paul), Randy Marvin, and Karen Coward (Troy); her grandchildren Donna Buckwell, Megan Coward Norris (Brendon), Katie Marvin and Emily Marvin Wilkes (CJ); two great-grandchildren Everly and Elijah Norris; brother Charles Scott and sister Charlotte Burgess (Edgar) and many loving nieces & nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband, she is preceded in death by son Larry Marvin; daughter in love Pam Marvin; and brother Joel Scott.

A graveside service will be held at 12:30 o'clock, Saturday, January 16th, at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens, Florence AL. A video recording of the service can be view after the service at ShivesFuneralHome.com.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that you make a memorial gift to a church or charity of your choosing.

The family would like to express their thanks to the staff and volunteers of Compassionate Care Hospice and the staff of Wildewood Downs for the loving care and support of our Mother during her final days.
