Jack S. Bailey, 77, of Lancaster, SC, died Saturday, June 24, 2023. Born August 29, 1945, in Greenwood, SC, he was a son of the late William Bailey and Peggy Wilson Mitchum.
Mr. Bailey was a Vietnam War veteran who honorably served his country for 12 years in the US Army. During his enlistment, he received many commendations for his conduct, including three Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. Following his military career, Mr. Bailey was employed as an engineering contractor in Colorado and ultimately retired after two decades of owning Glades Air and Electric in South Florida. He enjoyed being outside, especially when he had the opportunity to fish for bass or play golf. Mr. Bailey collected and restored classic cars, with his favorite projects being a 1957 Chevrolet and 70's El Camino. He also enjoyed drag racing and owned both a Nova and Monza drag car.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Bailey; daughters, Jacqueline Bailey, Jennifer Bailey, Josephina Nelson, and Janalyn Bailey; half-sister, Betty Hall Goddard; seven grandchildren and several great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Joanna Bailey, as well as siblings, Steve Hall and Joyce Newton Walker.
The graveside service for Mr. Bailey will be held at 11 o'clock, Friday, July 7th at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Rd, Columbia, SC 29229.
