Mr. Jack L. Mattox, of Blythewood, passed away on Saturday, November 23, 2013. Born February 27, 1933, in Richland County, SC, he was a son of the late Henry Mattox and Kate Kelly Mattox Hampton.
A member of the Baptist Faith, he retired from DuPont after 38 years of service. After retirement, Mr. Mattox enjoyed creating projects in his workshop up until his health started to fail. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, he was the youngest of ten children. Mr. Mattox was a charter member of the Blythewood Masonic Lodge and helped for many years with the annual BBQs. He served in the US Air Force from 1954 to 1958.
Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Sarah Allen Mattox; son, Dale (Tracy) Mattox; granddaughters, Mevysen "Mevy", and Savannah; great granddaughter, Claire; sisters, Lillie Bell M. Thigpen Loner, and Mary M. "Polly" Raines. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Charles, Ruben, Ed, John, and Ben Mattox; two sisters, Marvia M. Brazell, and Bernease M. Kelly.
A funeral service for Mr. Mattox will be held 2 o'clock, Wednesday, November 27th, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Centerville Ward, 1391 Centerville Rd., Ridgeway, SC, with Bishop Dean Branham, and Chaplain Col. William H. Mattox, USAF Ret'd officiating. Burial will follow at the Centerville Cemetery. The family will greet friends in the Relief Society Room, prior to the service beginning at 1 o'clock. Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
