Obituary

Jacqueline "Jackie" Roach Swindler, 60, of Pelion, died Wednesday, September 12, 2018. Born on July 28th, 1958, in Fairbanks, Alaska, she was the daughter of the late Jack Alexander and Charlotte O'Brien Roach. Sister of the late Johnny Roach and Larry Roach.

Jackie was one of five children, the only girl, born to Mr. and Mrs. Roach. Her father was an honored POW and Veteran of the US Army. Her family lived in many military bases, including Alaska and Kansas, prior to settling in Columbia, SC. Jackie was raised in the Woodfield Park area in northeast Columbia right outside of Ft. Jackson. She was a well-known barber in the area and went on to be the first female barber to cut the soldiers' hair on Ft. Jackson. Jackie established her own barber shop, Woodfield Barber Shop, and continued to cut hair for many patrons over the following 25 years. She was passionate about her career and enjoyed helping all the customers she came in contact with.

Jackie was an avid NASCAR (particularly Dale Earnhardt) and USC fan, who loved being in the presence of those she called family on race or game day. She was a loving mother and grandmother, who would do anything to see her loved ones smile. Often known by family friends as "Mama Jackie", she made everyone she came in contact with feel comfortable with a warm meal and many laughs. Jackie also enjoyed baking and cross-stitching, most of her creations were gifts to others. Jackie's beautiful smile and gracious heart will forever be missed by those who adored her.

Survivors include her daughter, Jessica "Jessy" Swindler; grandchildren, Jairen Esther and Jaxon Sutton; brother(s); brothers William "Billy" Roach and Brian Roach, as well as Jessy's father, Joseph Swindler (Carmen).
