James Howard Beckham, Jr., 87, of Blythewood, passed away on Saturday, June 25, 2022. Born on May 18, 1935, in Lancaster, South Carolina, he was the son of the late James Howard and Hattie Bailey Beckham. He was a dedicated member of Crossings Community Church in Columbia and a prior member of St Luke Methodist Church.
James was the faithful husband to Sylvia Hinson Beckham for over 50 years. He graduated from Heath Springs High School. James had a passion for trains and was a member of Lancaster Railway Museum. Once retired from his career in the textile mill industry, he took on the hobby of restoring private passenger cars. He was most commonly known by friends and family as "Peanut." James had a servant's heart and was adored by many.
He is survived by his son, John Gavin Beckham (Tracy); grandchildren, Kayla Beckham Johnstone (Tyler) and PFC Gavin Hillman Beckham; great-grandson, Jamie River Johnstone; and his brother, Maurice Beckham (Martha); and brother-in-law, Larry Hinson (Vicki). In addition to his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by sisters, JoAnn Tyler (Guy) and Sara Allen (Milton).
The funeral service for Mr. Beckham will be held at 2 o'clock on Saturday, July 2nd, at Crossings Community Church, 2831 Clemson Road, Columbia, SC. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 1 o'clock. Burial to follow at Salem Cemetery in Heath Springs, SC. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
