James L. Bennett, 98, of West Columbia, passed away Tuesday, 31 August 2021. Born on the 13th of January 1923, in Hendersonville, NC, he was the son of the late Willet Amos Bennett and May Clifton Boyd Bennett. He was a US Army veteran who proudly served his country during WWII.
Mr. Bennett earned his bachelor's degree in architectural engineering from NC State. Mr Bennett was employed with the architectural firms Lyles, Bissett, Carlisle, and Wolff and Jones and Fellers. He retired as a partner with Carlisle Associates.
Survivors include his children, James L. Bennett Jr. (Rosann), of Maine, Sherene Cupstid of Columbia, and Jannas Matthews (Lee) of Columbia; seven grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Hodson Bennett; two children, Sherwood Amos Bennett and Gayle Elizabeth Bennett; as well as five brothers. As a son, soldier, husband, and father James Bennett embodied the attitude of service.

A graveside service for Mr. Bennett was held at at Woodridge Memorial Park, 138 Corley Mill Road, Lexington, SC.
