James Norman Brewerton, 91, of Columbia, died Sunday, July 10, 2016. Born July 25, 1924, in Miami, Florida, he was the son of Norman Ernest and Margaret White Brewerton.
Following high school, Jim joined the US Navy during WWII. He served in the Pacific Theatre and as the Naval Attaché in Madrid. The last four years of Jim's military career were spent in the US Air Force, retiring in 1962. Following his retirement, he worked for WIS-TV and later became a residential realtor.
Mr. Brewerton is survived by his cousin, Ruth Adams; adoptive family, Shirley W. Dean, Barbara V. Holmes (Douglas), Paul E. Wilson (Jeanette), W. Thomas Wilson, companion of 55 years, and Margaret K. Wilson. He is also survived by nieces, Sharon D. Norton, Christine W. Leaphart, and Yvonne H. Walters; nephews, Dennis D. Dean, Douglas R. Holmes, Jr., and T. Edward Holmes.
Friends and family are invited to a celebration of Jim's life which will be held 10 o'clock, Friday, July 15th, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia. A reception will follow at the funeral home. Interment in Ft. Jackson National Cemetery will be private.
