James Henry Brown, 96, of Cayce, died Friday, January 26, 2018. Born August 11, 1921, in Greeleyville, SC, he was a son of the late Mike and Lillian Frick Brown of Blythewood. James was the sole survivor of his family. After graduating high school, Henry joined the U.S. Navy, where he proudly served the country he loved from August 11, 1942 until December 31, 1945. He served two tours in North Africa, one tour in South America and finished his career in the South Pacific. After service, he returned home where he met and married his loving and devoted wife of 69 years, Janelle. Henry retired from Rose Talbert Paint Co., as the Plant Manager, and worked for the City of Columbia Housing Authority. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting in Lone Star and Elloree, where he was a member of the Community Hunt Club.
He is survived by his wife, Janelle Roof Brown.
A graveside service for Mr. Brown will be held 1:30 o'clock, Tuesday, January 30th, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church Cemetery, 105 Main Street, Blythewood, with the Rev. Ron Hamm and the Rev. Olin Chassereau officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service, from 12 until 1 o'clock, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia.
