James (Jim) Ernest Christopher, Jr., 65, died on Friday, July 7, 2023 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Greenville, South Carolina on September 30, 1957, he was the son of the late James Ernest and Bettie Powe Christopher.
Jim is survived by his wife Elisabeth Dunlap Christopher; children, Joseph Dargan McMaster and Eleanor Gourdin McMaster of Columbia; sister Helen Ware of Greenville; brother John Christopher (Kathy) of Woodstock, Ga.; father and mother-in law Randy and Hope Dunlap of Columbia; brother-in-law Randolph Dunlap (Margaret) of Columbia, nieces and nephews.
A graduate of Erskine College, Jim enjoyed a long and successful career in commercial real estate development and finance. A born leader, Jim participated in many civic organizations including scouts, Leadership Columbia, Richland County Airport Commission, Angel Flights and Homeless No More.
Jim was a kind, humble and honorable man who shared his interests with many loving friends and family. His love of flying, travel and the great outdoors took him around the world in his plane with loved ones accompanying him on many adventures.
Whether at home with his family and dogs or fly fishing in Maine, Jim was deeply connected with nature and people. He will be remembered for his wealth of knowledge, his heart for stray dogs who always found a home with him, and most importantly his integrity, humility, and honor that carry him through the clouds in his beloved Cessna.
A casual drop-in reception will be held at the home, 15 Dennis Lane, Blythewood, South Carolina on Sunday, July 16th from 4:00-6:00 pm. A private burial is planned for a later date.
