James G. "Jimmie" Graham, 89, of Columbia, died Saturday, May 9, 2015. Born in Columbia, he was a son of the late Winchester and Julia Graham. Mr. Graham attended A. C. Moore, Hand Jr. High School, Dreher High School, and USC. World War II began during his studies at USC, and Jimmie enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1944. There he was taught photography, which became a lifelong hobby. He was never without his camera and enjoyed giving copies of his photos to his family and friends. Mr. Graham was a member of St. Martin's-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church where he served on the Vestry, the Ushering Team, and taught Sunday school. He was a member of the Caprecian Club, Quadrille Club, Forest Lake Club, Wildewood Country Club, the Home Builders Assoc., and the Realtor's Assoc. He worked as a real estate broker, home builder, insurance agent, finance officer, and for the last 37 years with his son, Jay Graham at Graham Realty.
Survivors include the love of his life and wife of 64 years, Anita Thee Graham; daughter and son-in-law, Mardi and Chip Smith; son, Jay Graham; grandchildren, Graham Smith, Stan Smith IV (Mary Douglass), Mardi Fair (Banks), and Connie Cathy (James); and six great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Graham was preceded in death by a brother, Frank K. Graham; and sisters, Lynn Margaret Graham and Ida Lawton Pierson.
A service for Mr. Graham will be held at 11:30 o'clock, Wednesday, May 13th, at St. Martin's-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church. The family will receive friends following the service in the Parrish Hall. Memorials may be made to the St. Martin's-in-the-Fields Foundation, 5220 Clemson Ave., Columbia, SC 29206; or to the charity of one's choice. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family. As a special tribute to Jimmie's unique style, gentlemen are invited to wear a bow tie to the service in his memory.
