Mr. James “Jimmy” M. Gamble, 91, of West Columbia passed away April 10th, 2026. Born in Orangeburg, SC, Jimmy was the son of the late Longstreet and Nellie Boltin Gamble. Jimmy graduated from Olympia High School where he lettered in football and baseball. He drove trucks for Colonial Foods for several years and then joined the Army National Guard where he served for 23 years. Jimmy has been a member of State Street Baptist Church for over 50 years. He never missed a Saturday trip to the Flea Market and has collected 100’s of model cars over the years.
Jimmy is survived by his niece and her husband, Linda and Bill Kelly of Lugoff, SC who had the privilege of being his caretakers for the last eight years. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife, Hazel (2018), and his toddler sister, Mary Frances (1936). He was blessed with a wonderful Church family, good neighbors and lots of breakfast and lunch friends at Just Us Cafe and Carolina Buffet.
The family would like to thank the wonderful doctors, nurses and Chaplains at Lexington Medical Center for their compassionate care.
The funeral service for Mr. Gamble will be held at 2 o’clock, Thursday, April 16th, at State Street Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Chet Andrews officiating. A private entombment will follow in Celestial Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Visitation will be held prior to the service at the Church beginning at 1 o’clock. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
