James Hardwick Smith, 80, of Columbia, died on Saturday, September 6, 2025. Born on September 1, 1945, in Florence, SC, he was a son of the late William Preston Smith and Lula Mae Mickle Smith. Mr. Smith was a US Air Force veteran and retired purchasing agent for The University of South Carolina.

Survivors include his wife, Rebecca Irvine Smith; brother, Robert Joel Smith (Cynthia Mishoe) of Surfside Beach, SC; sister-in-law, Sarah Irvine Cheek (Hal) of Gray Court, SC; nieces, Eleanor Smith of Dunwoody, GA and Ann-Mishoe Smith of Mount Pleasant, SC and his nephew, John Smith of Columbia. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Dr. William P. Smith as well as his nephews, Robert Joel Smith, Jr. and Harold Calhoun Cheek.

The graveside service for Mr. Smith will be held at 3 o'clock, Tuesday, September 16th, at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Rd, Columbia, SC.
