James "Jim" Lamar Evans, Jr., 76, of Columbia, died Thursday, March 6, 2025. Born in Columbia, Jim was the son of the late James Lamar, Sr. and Harriet Van Meter Evans and married to Betty Ann Shannon Evans for 54 years. After graduating from Dreher High School, he earned his Bachelor of Science from the University of South Carolina and his master's from John Hopkins University. While living in Baltimore, Jim was the Music Director for Faith Bible Church for 17 years. He worked as an electrical engineer for Westinghouse and Hewlett Packard before owning ServiceMaster of MidCarolina for 36 years. Jim had a wide variety of interests. He was a member of the Palmetto Mastersingers for 30 years and toured with them around the world to include the St. Lawrence riverway and China. Jim enjoyed sailing on Lake Murray, woodworking, playing the bass guitar and upright bass, and the ham radio.
Jim was a devoted follower of Jesus, and his faith was the foundation of everything he did. He now rests with his beloved Lord and Savior.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his daughter, Sharon "Sherry" Michelle Evans Beaumonte (Tony); son, James "Jay" Lamar Evans, III (Melissa); grandchildren, Clara Belle Evans, James Andrew Evans, and Laura Mae Evans.
A service will be held at 3 o'clock, Saturday, March 22nd at Hope Church, 2609 Seminole Drive, Columbia, SC 29210. The family will receive friends following the service.
