James M. Luker, 85, of West Columbia, died Friday, November 16, 2018. Born July 8, 1933 in Lawrenceburg, TN, he was a son of the late Freeman and Flora Mae Jaco Luker.
James worked as display director for several department stores including Belk's, in Columbia, and Pizitz's, in Birmingham, AL. He was widely known for his Christmas display "Enchanted Forest". One child wrote that is was the "absolute highlight of every Christmas". James won many awards to include the National Display Award. He and his wife were foster parents to fourteen children. James was always very involved with church, serving as elder, Sunday school teacher and choir director.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Carolyn Wallace Luker; son, Kenneth Martin Luker; grandsons, AJ Luker (Candace), Matthew and Ryan Luker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Patrice Michelle Luker.
Services for Mr. Luker will be private. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
