Mr. James "Jimmy" Monts, Jr., 73, of Irmo, died Sunday, September 29, 2013. Born January 25, 1940, in Blythewood, SC, he was a son of the late James Manning Monts, Sr. and Susan Lucretia Chappell Monts. James was a US Navy veteran and a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

Survivors include sisters, Nancy L. Monts of Columbia, Shelia J. Monts of Irmo; brothers, Oscar C. (Lorraine) Monts of Jupiter, FL, John N. (Theresa) Monts of Meadows of Dan, VA; grandnephew, Raymond Monts of Irmo; grandniece, Rachel Rasmussen of Irmo; and special friend, Kay Doolittle of Cayce. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Belva E. Monts.

The funeral service for Mr. Monts will be held 11 o'clock, Wednesday, October 2nd, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, with The Reverend Dr. Karen K. Young officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o'clock, Tuesday evening, at Shives Funeral Home, 5202 Colonial Dr, Columbia. Memorials may be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Building Fund or Cemetery Fund, 10,000 Broad River Rd, Irmo, SC, 29063.
