James "Jim" Fincher Polson, Sr, 74, of Elgin, died Wednesday, December 26, 2018. Born on April 11, 1944. in Newberry, SC, he was a son of the late James C. Polson and Evelyn Hipp Polson.
Jim was a graduate of A. C. Flora High School, Midlands Technical College and also attended Clemson University. He proudly served his country in the
United States Marine Corps, as a Sgt. Following his service in Vietnam, he became a registered land surveyor and Civil Engineer, before starting his own business, Polson's Surveying Company. He was an avid Clemson fan and a member of North Trenholm Baptist Church, where he coached Little League Baseball for many years.
Survivors include his daughter, Carrie Polson Barkalow (Rob) of Columbia; sons, James F. Polson, Jr, (Jennifer) of Columbia, Jonathan Polson (Sarah) of Greenville; sisters, Loretta Brooks and Brenda Moore (Al) of Columbia, Linda Turner (Hugh) of Newberry, Mary Evelyn Self (Danny) of Mobile; four grandchildren, Nicholas Goff, John Fincher Polson and Jillian Grace Polson of Columbia, Davis Polson of Greenville; and his companion, Brenda Roth of Columbia. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Sara Jane Kolb.
The service for Mr. Polson will be held 12:30 o'clock, Monday, December 31st, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext, Columbia. The family will receive friends following the service. Burial will be private.
