James David Slagle, Sr., 75, of Columbia, died Thursday, February 15, 2018. Born on March 5, 1942, he was the son of the late Burton and Ruby Harrington Slagle. Mr. Slagle was a member of Ravenwood Baptist Church, a US Army veteran, and worked as a brick mason in the Columbia area for over 50 years. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Margaret Chatham Slagle; son, Joe Slagle (Melissa); grandchildren, J.D. Slagle (Victoria), Cortney Wrennall (Jordan), Tanner Slagle, Hampton Slagle, and Jordan Slagle; great-grandchildren, Rylan Slagle, Kason Slagle; a sister, Virginia French and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, James David Slagle, Jr. and sister, Betty Slagle.
The funeral service will be held at 4 o'clock, Sunday, February 18th, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia. Burial at Fort Jackson National Cemetery will be private. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 2 o'clock.
