James Gregg Thompson, 60, of Columbia, died Wednesday, May 3, 2023. Born May 3, 1963, in Columbia, he was a son of the late Carroll Grant Thompson and Betty Walker Thompson.

Gregg attended Irmo High School and resided in the Columbia area most of his life. Throughout his career, Gregg was employed as a maintenance technician in the hotel and construction industry.

Survivors include his daughter, Ashley Jones of Elgin; brother, Carl Anthony "Tony" Thompson of Columbia; as well as numerous other extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandmother, Dessie Walker; grandfather, L.G. Walker Sr., uncle, L.G. Walker, Jr.; aunts, Faye Ward, Inez Peurifoy, Anne Haley, and Nell Parker.

A celebration of life will be held at the home of Tony Thompson, 3127 Forest Drive, Columbia, SC on Saturday, May 20th at 3 o'clock, with family and friends of those who knew Gregg are welcome. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
