James "Jim" Underwood Smith, 83, of West Columbia, passed away on Saturday, February 5, 2022. Born on November 29, 1938, in Haleyville, Alabama, he was a son of the late Robert Wilson Smith and Tommie Tuggle Harvey.
Jim was a born-again Christian and attended St. Paul's United Methodist Church, State College, PA. He is a 1960 graduate of Mississippi State University, where he received his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. Later, he became Vice President of marketing and sales for Ruetgers-Nease Corporation, State College, PA.
Jim had a love for hunting, the outdoors, and Penn State Nittany Lions football. James was a member of Camp Missed-A-Few, National Wild Turkey Federation, Pheasants Forever, and Trout Unlimited. He was also a life sponsor of Ruffed Grouse Society.
Jim is survived by his wife of 38 years, Clara Sue Arnold Smith; stepdaughters, Catherine Crisp (Kaye McKinzie), Robyn Marren (Brian), Rachel Henderson; grandchildren, Parker Marren, Kennedy Marren, Jack Henderson, and Normandie Henderson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Richland Lee Smith and daughter, Dawn Michelle Smith.
A private funeral service for Mr. Smith will be held at a future date. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
