Jane Garrett Lear, 92, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, April 11, 2022.
Janie was born on April 27, 1929, in Germantown, PA. She was the daughter of the late Albert S. and Hilda D. Garrett. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Wilson Henry Lear II. She is the mother of the late Wilson H. Lear III, David C. Lear (Laura), Suzanne L. Keenan, and Jennifer L. Naumann (Toby). She has seven grandchildren, McNeel (Allyson), Wil (Liz), Lauren (Levi), Hunter (Alexandra), Jacob, Luke, and Zachary; as well as seven great-grandchildren, Landon, Mason, Owen, Griffin, Lane, Theo, and Benjamin. One of God's dearest gifts to her was her family.
She graduated from Lankenau School for Girls in Germantown, PA and attended Cedar Crest College for Women in Allentown, PA.
Janie loved her Lord, teaching His Word, and the women of His church. She mentored many women in their walk with the Lord. She was a gifted teacher of the Bible.
She was a Charter Member of Northeast Presbyterian Church and a member of the Good News Sunday school class. Janie taught Sunday School, was a speaker at the women's conferences at her church, and prepared devotional booklets for vacation bible school for many years. She served as the president of the NEPC Women of the Church and was a member of the Gleaners Woman's Circle for over 40 years. She was an integral part of starting the Focus Bible Study and served as a teaching leader for 14 years. Janie was also a volunteer for Bethany Christian Services and Birthright of Columbia.
Janie enjoyed crafting, reading, and writing. She wrote poetry, stories, prayers, devotionals, bible studies, and a book, Button Baby and the Very Big Difference.
The funeral service for Mrs. Lear will be held on her birthday at 2 o'clock Wednesday, April 27th at Northeast Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. George D. Crow, III officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1:00 in the church atrium. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
