Jane Allen Waters, 91, of Columbia, South Carolina, died Friday, August 10, 2012 in Columbia. She was born August 16, 1920 in Ripon, Wisconsin, the daughter of Frederick William Allen and Laura Josephine Johnson Allen. Mrs. Waters was a devoted Army wife, loving mother and devoted, professional grandmother. She was an Episcopalian.
Mrs. Waters grew up in Ripon, Wisconsin and attended Ripon College where she met her husband, Bob. She married and became a patriotic army wife living in Georgia, Virginia, Germany and Italy prior to their retirement in Columbia, South Carolina in 1973. Aside from being a devoted friend to many, her most admired accomplishment was being a grandmother. She was known by all of her grandchildren's friends as Grandma Jane. The words No, I'm tired, or it is too hot never passed her lips when she spent time with them.
She is survived by her son, Robert Lee Waters (Carol) of Beaufort, S.C.; her two grandchildren, India Bauder (Matthew) of Atlanta, Georgia and Robert Waters of Moose Pass, Alaska; and her Jack Russell Terrier, Alice. She is also survived by her brother, Frederick Walton Allen (Tilley) of Peoria, Illinois; nieces, Laura Curfman (Chris),of Peoria, Illinois, Diane Oberhelman (Doug) Edwards, Illinois and Rita Graves of Peoria, Illinois; and grandnieces, Crystal, Collette Curfman, Kathleen Cullinan Brill, Maureen Cullinan Bennett, Alison Cullinan, Whitney Graves; and grandnephew, Allen Cullinan all of Peoria, Illinois. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Waters was preceded in death by her husband, Colonel Robert Lee Waters.
Visitation will be Saturday, August 11, 2012 from 10 am until Noon, at Shives Funeral Home, 5202 Colonial Drive, Columbia, S.C. A graveside service will be held Monday, August 13, 2012, 11:00 a.m. at Beaufort National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Columbia ASPCA, The Humane Society, 121 Humane Lane Columbia, SC 29209.
