Obituary

Mrs. Janet Johnson Brown, 72, of Columbia, died Friday, June 28th 2024. She was born on October 4, 1951 in Columbia, SC and was a daughter of the late RC and Vivian Crossland Johnson.

Janet attended St. Peters and Cardinal Neuman Catholic schools. She was a great stay-at-home mom who raised two awesome sons. After raising her boys, she got a job at FN Manufacturing where she retired. She eventually became the loved, but mean, HR manager. Working at FN allowed her to show her patriotism and support for our military. She loved the beach and Cherokee Casino. Following close behind the love for her children and grandchildren was her love of painting. This passion endured throughout her entire life including a stint where she owned Country Sunshine arts and craft store and taught many people to paint. Janet will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her husband, Earl Eugene Brown; sons, Waylon "Buddy" Ergle, Jr. (Melanie) and Joseph "Jody" Ergle (Misty); grandchildren, Brittany Bowker (Arthur), Jessica Roland (Jeremy), Waylon "Tripper" Ergle, III, Stevie Bradshaw, Joseph "jo-jo" Ergle, Jr., and Sophia Ergle; step-children, Dustin Brown and Jennifer Thomas (Shannon); granddaughter, Campbell Brown; as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Tony Johnson, Robert Johnson, Dot Baldwin, and Veronica Sharpe.

The family will receive friends from 3 until 5 o'clock, Saturday, July 6th, at, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, SC.
