Janet S. Vargas-Riordan, 55, of Columbia, died on Thursday, August 25, 2022. Born in San Salvador, El Salvador, on September 28, 1966, she was a daughter of Sylvia M. Chavez and the late Mario Vargas. Janet graduated from Columbia College and later the University of South Carolina with a master's degree in counseling. She changed countless lives over a 32 year career as a Spanish teacher and 17 year career as a guidance counselor.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her loving husband, Pat Riordan; brothers, David Vargas and John Vargas; mother-in-law, Martha C. Riordan; sisters-in-law, Roxanna Vargas and Kerry Allen; brother-in-law, Robert M. Riordan; nephew, Alexander J. Vargas; and niece Betsy Chesnay. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Bob Riordan; and sister-in-law, Lisa C. Vargas.

The service for Janet will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, September 17, 2022 at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel.
