Janice Messinger Mozeleski, 81, of Lexington, South Carolina, passed away on Thursday, September 10, 2026.
She was the beloved daughter of the late Emory C. Messinger and Dorothy Burrows Messinger. Janice was born on February 28, 1945, in Kane, Pennsylvania, and grew up in Louisville, Kentucky. She was a 1963 graduate of Southern High School in Louisville.
Janice retired from the Kentucky Department of Transportation and was a longtime resident of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, where she was a member of Buck Grove Baptist Church in Ekron, Kentucky. In 2018, she moved to Lexington, South Carolina, to be closer to her family.
During her years in Kentucky, Janice enjoyed volunteering at Bernheim Forest, participating in the Heartland Dulcimer Club, and working with the Louisville Youth Orchestra. She was also active in various church activities, including singing in the choir.
After moving to South Carolina, Janice continued her love of serving others by volunteering at River Bluff High School. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Lexington, where she was a committed member of the choir and the Encouragers Life Group. Janice loved her church family at First Baptist Lexington and treasured the friendships she formed there.
Janice was an avid reader and enjoyed crafting activities. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her grandchildren. She shared her love, strength, and passion with her family, friends, and church community. With her passing, she is now sharing her love of music by singing in God’s choir.
Janice is survived by her son, Robert Mozeleski; grandchildren, Anne and John Mozeleski; and former daughter-in-law, Debra Tamer. She is also survived by her siblings, Joyce Leet, Joan Goff (Tom), Thomas Messinger (Sandy), and Laura Marlin (Troy); sisters-in-law Mauri Mozeleski and Marie Gough; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Eric Mozeleski; daughter-in-law, Jane Mozeleski; and grandson, Gregory Mozeleski.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at First Baptist Church, 415 Barr Road Lexington, South Carolina. The family will receive friends following the service in the church’s fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Lexington Music Ministry.
