Ms. Janie D. Coker, 89, of Lexington, passed away Monday, September 30, 2013. Born in Bishopville, SC on August 10, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Laurie and Janie Brown Dennis. Ms. Coker was a longtime member of Earlewood Baptist Church and she deeply enjoyed the fellowship she shared with the Grace Sunday School Class. Her loving and caring spirit led to many friendships at Deepwood Estates Senior Living Community, and her deep commitment to her faith shone in all she did. Ms. Coker loved the Lord, and she longed for all those she knew to know and love Him, too. She was a very loving mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Survivors include her son, Larry Coker (Brenda); daughter, Connie C. Woodard; former son-in-law, James B. Woodard; grandchildren, Robert Todd Coker (Candace), Randy Robert Coker (Crystal), Hollie M. Gray (William), James F. Woodard, and James Fennell; great-grandchildren, Hannah, Katie, and Madelyn Coker, Elizabeth and Brantson Holmes, and Riley Gray; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Ms. Coker was preceded in death by her sisters, Grace Branham, Frances Hall, and Katherine Faile.
A funeral service for Ms. Coker will be held at 11:30 o'clock, Thursday, October 3rd, at Shives Funeral Home, 5202 Colonial Dr, Columbia with The Rev. Robert Todd Coker, The Rev. Don Turner, The Rev. Ed Lynch, and The Rev. Harvey Hyatt officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 10:30 o'clock. Members of the Grace Sunday School Class are invited to serve as honorary pallbearers.
A committal service will be held at Concord United Methodist Church Cemetery, 354 Old Camden Road, Bishopville, SC, Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock.
