Jean Timmons Doverspike, 89, of Columbia, died on Tuesday, December 31, 2024. Born in Lanscaster, SC, on August 26, 1935, she was a daughter of the late Hobson Shaw and Carrie Lee Robinson Shaw. Mrs. Doverspike was educated in Lancaster County Schools and attended Berry College. In High School, she played Basketball and won the award of most athletic. She loved children and went on to spend over 20 years as a preschool teacher, as well as children and adults' Sunday School teacher. A kind and generous lady, Mrs. Doverspike often visited homebound friends and enjoyed sending greeting cards for all occasions. Her spare time was spent with her family and frequently playing Rook and Skee Ball.
Above all, she deeply loved her Lord, her family, and Church, North Trenholm Baptist, where she was a longtime member.
Survivors include her daughter, Kellie Wilson (Danny), of Columbia; granddaughters, Brooke Wilson, of Charlotte, NC, and Laurie Trotter, of Columbia; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and extended family members. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Vernon Timmons; second husband, Jack Doverspike; three brothers; and four sisters.
The funeral service for Mrs. Doverspike will be held at 2 o'clock, Saturday, January 4th, at North Trenholm Baptist Church, with Pastors Danny Wilson, Casey Williams, David Knapp and Joe Copeland officiating. The family will receive friends in the Chapel at the church prior to the service beginning at 1 o'clock. A private burial will be held in Serenity Gardens of Greenlawn Memorial Park. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
Serving as pallbearers will be Alex Allen, Mike Donahue, Michael Fields, Jimmy Herman, Benji Holder and Larry Knott. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Dooley Compton Sunday School Class, as well as Phil Bookter, Randy Carnes, Michael Donahue, Randy Marvin, Wayne Harris and Mitch Wilson.
