Mrs. Jean Hopkins Dukes, 82, of Columbia, died Tuesday, March 29, 2016. Born to George William and Kate Croxton Hopkins, she was married to the late William Joseph Dukes for 63 years. Mrs. Dukes was a teacher at Heathwood Hall for over 40 years and a member of The First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her son, William (Rebecca Mattox) Dukes of Ridgeway; daughters, Kathy (Bernard) Tisdale of Matthews, NC, and Jennifer Craft of Columbia; grandchildren, Hunter, Kate, and Abby Tisdale, Jessica Craft, and Morgan (Matt) Motes; and brother, Harry Croxton (Rebecca) Hopkins. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Dukes was preceded in death by her daughter, Deborah Jean Dukes; and brothers, George William Hopkins, Jr., and Patrick Hobbs Hopkins.
A graveside service for Mrs. Dukes will be held 4 o'clock, Saturday, April 2nd, at Greenhaven Preserve, 1701 Vanboklen Road, Eastover, SC. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
Memorials may be made to The Humane Society, 121 Humane Lane, Columbia, SC 29209. Mrs. Dukes had a lifelong love of all animals. She always took in and cared for every stray animal she encountered.
