Jean C. Harkey, wife of the late W. Mike Harkey, died Thursday, November 29, 2018. Born February 2, 1934, in Bamberg, SC, was the daughter of the late Valma Eugene and Grace Folk Creech.
Jean attended Columbia High School and was a graduate of Eau Claire High School. She attended Chapin Baptist Church, was a former member of Incarnation Lutheran Church and was a member of Crooked Creek Park in Chapin.
Jean worked over 20 years with her husband, Mike Harkey, owner of Trubilt Homes, she was a former co-owner of Tokunaga One Hour Martinizing Dry Cleaners, worked at SCETV and Ellett Brothers. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, and her family was always first and foremost in her life. She loved to cook and bake on every occasion, loved gardening, birdwatching, and crafts of all kinds. She worked out weekly at Crooked Creek Park, and frequently expressed how much her exercise friends meant to her as well as her church friends. She dearly loved all of her friends and referred to herself as the "life of the party!" .
Jean is survived by her children, Debbie Truluck (Brian), and Jim Tokunaga; two grandchildren, Michael Wray (Kara) and Savanna Tokunaga; and two great-grandchildren, Natalie and Evan Wray; her brother, Roland Creech (Lynda); and numerous nieces and nephews.
The service for Mrs. Harkey will be held 4 o'clock, Monday, December 3rd, at Chapin Baptist Church, 950 Old Lexington Hwy., with the Reverend Philip Vaughn officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 3 o'clock in the church fellowship hall. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that memorial contributions be made to support breast cancer research at the USC School of Medicine.
