Jean Lassiter Payne, 87, of Columbia, died Tuesday, June 10, 2014. Born on October 10, 1926, in Petersburg, VA, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Lizzie Dunn Lassiter.

Ms. Payne was a graduate of Dreher High School and attended USC. A member of Lykesland Baptist Church, she enjoyed reading and working crosswords, but most of all, she enjoyed time with her family and friends, by whom she will be greatly missed.

Ms. Payne is survived by her son, Michael Duty (Pam); daughter, Cindy Leone; grandchildren, Joseph Leone, Ashley Duty, and Eric Duty; great-granddaughter, Riley Duty; great-grandson, David Duty. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Russell Duty.

The funeral service for Ms. Payne will be held 2 o'clock, Saturday, June 14, 2014 in the mausoleum chapel of Memorial Gardens of Columbia, 9301 Wilson Blvd, Columbia, 29203, with The Rev. Dr. Odell S. Belger officiating. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 6 until 8 o'clock at Shives Funeral Home, 5202 Colonial Dr, Columbia.
