Jeanne Forrest Bauknight, whose merriment and wit will long be remembered by family and friends, died Wednesday, June 5, 2013, after battling pancreatic cancer.
She was the mother of seven children, grandmother of 14, and great-grandmother of four. Ms. Bauknight was the daughter of the late Louise Forrest and Henry Manning Bauknight.
Surviving are her children, Christine Schwenker (Steve) of Lexington, Brian L. Cunningham of Columbia, Louise C. Allen (Arnold) of Asheville, NC, Eugene M. Cunningham (Beth) of Cayce, William D. Cunningham (Amy) of Fairview, NC, Sallie Cunningham of Savannah, GA, and Glenn C. Cunningham (Katie) of Tampa, FL. Also surviving are a sister, Margaret Bauknight of Columbia; and a brother, Harry L. Bauknight (Dotte) of Irmo.
For most of her working years, she was a medical technician in St. Petersburg, FL, and Savannah, GA. She also co-managed a bed-and-breakfast inn in the historic district of Savannah for several years. She was a member of St. Elizabeth's New Martyr Russian Orthodox Church in West Columbia. Mama Jeanne never met a stranger. She had an open heart and an open home for everyone.
Visitation will be Monday, June 10th from 10 am until noon at Shives Funeral Home, 5202 Colonial Drive, Columbia. The funeral service will be Monday at 1 pm at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, corner of Main and Richland streets, downtown Columbia, with the Very Rev. Fr. Mark Mancuso of St. Elizabeth's officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Members of St. Elizabeth's will serve as pallbearers.
