Jeanne Shaw Whisnant, 90, of Columbia, died Thursday, July 27, 2017. Born January 23, 1927, in Shingler, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late Roy Emory Shaw & Mary Mims Shaw.

Mrs. Whisnant was a member of Shandon Baptist Church, and was a former member of First Baptist Church in Immokalee, Florida, where she taught Sunday school class for 40 years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, who enjoyed cooking and entertaining, and was known for her wit.

Survivors include sons, Major Whisnant (Beronica), and Mark Whisnant (Patti); grandchildren, Mish Nichols (John), Lillian Jacks (Carey), Jack Whisnant, Peter Whisnant (Kelley), Cody Whisnant (Madison), Trent Whisnant, Logan Whisnant, and Kathryn Grace Whisnant; 9 great grandchildren; and a sister, Jolene Hewitt. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Major Jackson Whisnant.

The memorial service for Mrs. Whisnant will be held 2:00 o'clock, Sunday, July 30th, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
