Jessie "Louise" Johnson Moeller, 87, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 7, 2026, in Columbia, South Carolina. Born on March 30, 1939, in Leesburg, Florida, Louise lived a full and vibrant life marked by her intelligence, dedication to family and friends, and a passion for history and adventure.
Louise graduated as Valedictorian of the Class of 1957 from Wildwood High School in Wildwood, Florida. She went on to attend Florida State University, where she furthered her education and cultivated her love of learning. Her professional career included roles as a secretary for State Farm Insurance Agency and as a bookkeeper for Jimmy Rivers Body & Paint Shop. Her dedication and attention to detail were evident throughout her career.
A woman of many interests and talents, Louise had a deep appreciation for history that inspired her throughout her life. She was an avid scuba diver who found joy in the underwater world and loved fishing. Her adventurous spirit extended to traveling far and wide, always eager to experience new places. Louise also cherished the arts, particularly opera, which brought her great delight. She spent countless hours playing Bridge with friends, scrapbooking treasured memories, and collecting keepsakes that reflected her varied interests. Above all else, she adored caring for her beloved dog, Rusty.
Louise was a member of St. Michael and All Angels' Episcopal Church in Columbia. Her church family was an integral part of her and Bob's life, providing them with community and fellowship throughout the years.
She is survived by her son Bryan Moeller; daughter-in-law Beth Moeller; brother David Johnson and sister-in-law Shirley Johnson; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews who will remember her fondly. Louise was predeceased by her husband Robert (Bob) Lee Moeller; father Stevenson Barnett Johnson; and mother Jessie Louise Lenker Johnson.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at The Palmettos Assisted Living, NHC Healthcare Parklane and Caris Healthcare for their compassionate care during Louise’s final days.
Louise’s legacy of intelligence, curiosity, and love will continue to inspire those who knew her. May her memory bring comfort to all whose lives she touched.
The funeral service to celebrate Louise will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, with visitation taking place at 10:30 a.m. The committal service will be at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Rd, Columbia, SC at 1:00 p.m.
In honor of Louise’s memory, memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael and All Angels' Episcopal Church Endowment Fund at 6408 Bridgewood Road, Columbia, SC 29206.
