Jimmy Laverne Davis, 87, of Columbia, died Tuesday, May 16, 2017. Born November 18, 1929 in Mullins, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Rufus F. Davis and Vivian Johnson Davis. Jimmy attended Columbia High School and retired after thirty years of service with the Colonial and A&P Stores.
Survivors include his loving wife, Elizabeth Berry Davis; daughters, Debra Davis of Columbia and Gayle Marks (Hugh) of Wagner; six grandchildren, Gena Dow (Rob), Shana Davis, Ben Davis (Lauren), David Strother (Susan), Angie Shumpert, and Monica Shumpert; and 10 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his brothers, Edmund Davis, Joe Davis (Cheryl); sisters, Audrey Stepp, Dorothy Dearman (Wayne), Deannie Francis, Mary Ann Miller, and Cathy Wesson (Tom); and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Wade L. Davis, and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral service for Mr. Davis will be held 2 o'clock, Friday, May 19th, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road, Columbia, with interment to follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
