Joan P. Johnson, 87, of Columbia, died Monday, September 7, 2020. Born July 22, 1933, in Utica, NY, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Peters, Sr. and Olga Giovonetti Peters.

Mrs. Johnson was the owner and operator of the Beltone Hearing Aid Center in Columbia from 1967-2004. She was also involved in various community activities and civic groups.

Survivors include her children, Sharon Johnson Byrd of Pawleys Island, SC and Russell E. Johnson, Jr. (Edwina) of Blythewood, SC; grandchildren, Joshua Johnson of Columbia, SC, Hannah Johnson of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and Luke Floyd of Seattle, WA; as well as her brother, Donald Peters (Joanne) of Lake Murray, FL. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Russell E. Johnson, Sr. and her brother, Joseph Peters, Jr.

The graveside service for Mrs. Johnson will be held 11 o'clock, Saturday, September 19th at Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens, 2603 Two Notch Rd, Columbia, SC 29204. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.

Everyone is invited to attend but will be asked to abide by the state's recommendations of wearing masks and social distancing to provide a safe environment for all.
