Obituary

Joe Anne Davenport Varnadore, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, December 1st, after a long battle with dementia. A Celebration of her life will be held at 11 o'clock on Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at Cedar Creek Baptist Church, Blythewood with Dr. James W. "J" Thompson, III officiating. Interment will follow in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o'clock on Tuesday, December 3rd at Shives Funeral Home. Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Extension, Columbia, SC 29223.
Joe Anne was born on October 11, 1936 in Camden, South Carolina to Charles H. Davenport and Hettie Mae Shoemake Davenport.

She graduated from Camden High School. On this same date, December 1, 1956, she married Curtis G. Varnadore. Together they raised their family, enjoyed sharing their home and hosting their annual "Labor Day Bar B Que". Joe Anne was primarily a homemaker whose greatest love and passion was taking care of her family. After her children were grown, she worked alongside Curtis in their fuel oil equipment business. She was a charter member of Ravenwood Baptist Church in Columbia, until she and Curtis moved to Blythewood, where they became active members of Cedar Creek Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughters, Rene Clark (Eddie) of Blythewood and Dawn Gregory (Rick) of Columbia; grandchildren, Jamye Duren (Evans), Krystal Kingkade (John), Todd Rabon and Robert Clark; great-grandchildren, Clark and Wyatt Duren, John, Talan and Jack Kingkade and Allison Rabon. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews who affectionately called her "Aunt Joe". Joe Anne was blessed to be a part of a large, extended family. She is also survived by a sister, Dorothy Vieira (Len) of Leesburg, Fl; brothers, Charles Davenport (Carolyn) of Camden, SC and Donnie Davenport (Trudy) of Surfside Beach, SC. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband and brothers, Larry and Harry Davenport.

The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to her caregivers, Mary McFadden and her niece, Terri Daughtry, who took such good care of her over these last few years.
