John Edward "Basha" Lane, 80, of Columbia, died on Wednesday, March 27, 2024. Born October 22, 1943, in Pomaria, SC, he was a son of the late John Waymon and Dorethea Williams Lane.
Prior to his retirement, Mr. Lane was a diesel technician with the New York City Transit Authority. He was a former resident of Brooklyn, NY, before moving to Columbia, SC. He was an avid baseball fan, who especially loved cheering for the Atlanta Braves. Mr. Lane also took joy in watching several television shows, including In the Heat of the Night, Sanford and Son, Family Feud, and various westerns. He was a dedicated husband and father who worked diligently to provide for his entire family. Mr. Lane enjoyed cooking, as well as hosting family gatherings. He was a faithful attendant of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses where he enjoyed all meetings and assemblies.
Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Dorothy A. Lane; children, Monique Lane Cromer (Kyle) of Newberry, SC John Lane of Lancaster, Tanyatta Lane King (Nathaniel, Jr.) of Elgin, SC and Tadd E. Lane (Natalia) of Lexington, SC; grandchildren, Dominique Sligh, Chasity Tannesha Gray, Nadia Moneà Lane, Caleb Chase Lane, and Annabelle E. Lane; great grandchild, Neicko Kennard; siblings, Ida Roena Williams of Queens, NY, William "Pam" Lane (Eunice) of Pomaria, SC, Carrie L. Hendrix (Clifton) of Blair, SC, and Ervin Lane (Sally) of Pomaria, SC, as well as host of dedicated nieces, nephew, family, and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Joe Nathan Lane and his brother-in-law, Seymore Williams.
The funeral service for Mr. Lane will be held at 1 o'clock, Tuesday, April 2nd at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 1009 Fulmer Rd, Blythewood, SC 29016. Burial will follow at Centerville Cemetery, 867 Centerville Road, Ridgeway, SC 29130.
Mr. Lane will lie in repose from 9 until 5 o'clock, Monday, April 1st at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext, Columbia, SC 29223.
