Mr. John Derrick Owens, 55, of Columbia, died on Wednesday, February 10, 2021, in Prisma Health Richland Heart Hospital from complications from a pulmonary embolism. Born in Kershaw County, SC on May 7, 1965, he was a son of Angie Carolyn Catoe Owens and the late John Henry Owens.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 28 years, Sharon Wooten Owens; his mother; sister Angela Owens Raley all of Columbia, SC; an adored niece Keri Beard Smith, along with her husband Dakota, and son Riley Smith of Heath Springs, SC; aunts Shirley Owens Lucas of Columbia, SC and Ada Owens Smith of Westville, SC; great aunt, Lucy Twitty of Kershaw, SC; and several cousins and extended family. He especially loved his in-laws, Sam and Pat Wooten of Cary, NC; his brother-in-law Kevin Wooten of Rock Hill, SC; his sister-in-law Kathryn Wooten Sobel (Jonathan Sobel) of Cary, NC and their respective children Tyler, Amber, Matthew Wooten, and Joshua, Elizabeth, Christopher Sobel.
