John F. "Jack" Hair, 90, of Columbia, died Wednesday, August 1, 2018. Born March 6, 1928 in Blackville, SC, he was a son of the late Lennie Lee Hair and Mamie Dora Lancaster Hair.
Mr. Hair was a long-time member of Kilbourne Park Baptist Church where he served as deacon. He retired from Palmetto Baking Company after 17 years and later from Yarborough Distributors, with 20 years of service. He loved the great outdoors and working in his yard, and was known as "Granddaddy" to some and "Gagar" to others.

Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Sarah Davis Hair; children, Jackie Starling (Jerry) and Farrell Hair (Merci), all of Elgin, SC; grandchildren, Jerrylee Starling (Elizabeth), Jeff Starling, (currently serving in the military in Germany) (Gwen), Jennifer S. Catoe (Will), Melinda Gates (Jake), Becky Stephens (Alex), Kathleen Thompson (Rob); great-grandchildren, Meghan Ray (Stuart), Tyler Starling (Savannah), Mary Elizabeth McCaskill, Lainey Starling, Davis Catoe, Baker Catoe, Kayleigh Gates, Hannah Gates, Emma Gates, Trey Stephens, Ally Stephens, Maddie Clark, Adam Thompson and one on the way in January, 2019; great-great-grandchildren, Landon Cash Starling and one on the way in March, 2019, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hair was preceded in death by his brothers, Lewis Hair and an infant brother; and sister Frances Hair Delk.

The funeral service for Mr. Hair will be held 11 o'clock, Saturday, August 4th, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road, Ext. Columbia, with The Rev. Terry Smoak officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o'clock, Friday, at the funeral home. Interment will be held 3 o'clock, Sunday, August 5th at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
