Mr. John Tyler Hyatt, Sr., 89, of Blythewood, died March 4, 2016. Born on December 22, 1926 in Seaboard, AL, he was a son of the late Richard Lee and Bertha Nadine Lane Hyatt. John was raised on a farm in Alabama and joined the Army when he was 18 years-old. His 27 years of military service enabled him, his loving wife, the late Barbara Ann Hyatt, and their growing family to live around the world, and he served meritoriously in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. Following retirement from the Army, John worked for 15 years at Richland Memorial Hospital as Director of Environmental Services. He enjoyed time spent outdoors, cooking, and entertaining.
John is survived by sons, John Hyatt, Jr. (Jeanie) of Lexington, Bill Hyatt (Sue) of Blythewood, and Rayford Hyatt (Cindy) of Blythewood; daughters, Ruth Hill (William) of Columbia, Linda Matthews (Bill) of Lancaster, and Elaine Tepley (Joe) of Lexington; grandchildren, Erin Pruett (Jon), Laura Greene (Michael), Scott and Stacy Smith, Kristopher and Kelly Hyatt, Amanda and Anna Bagby, Craig (Kayla) and Avery Hill, and Megan Tepley; great-grandchildren, Autumn and Billy Greene, Lily Pruett, Makenzie and Joseph Wooten, Ainsley and Nathan Smith, and Schyler and Falyn Hill; as well as 11 brothers and sisters. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
A celebration of Mr. Hyatt's life will be held 1 o'clock, Monday, March 7, 2016, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Rd. Exn., with The Rev. Scott Bratton officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park with full military honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service, beginning at 12 o'clock.
