Obituary

John Martin Ingram, 74, of Columbia, passed away peacefully early Wednesday morning, December 11, 2019. Born in Columbia, SC on February 5, 1945, he was a son of the late JC and Lila Manuel Ingram. Mr. Ingram worked as a salesman for many years. He spent much of his time singing in the First Baptist Church of Columbia choir and singing at nursing homes, but it was his 5 grandchildren who were the light of his life.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Barbara Brazell Ingram; sons, Jonathan Ingram (Ashley), and Benjamin Ingram (Emilie); grandchildren, Hannah, Caroline, Emirie, Campbell, and Reeves Ingram; brother Stan Ingram (Becky), as well as nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a daughter of the heart, Dona Ayers. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Rita Ingram Folsom.

The funeral service for Mr. Ingram will be held at 11 o'clock, Tuesday, December 17th, in Boyce Chapel of First Baptist Church, 1306 Hampton Street, Columbia. The Rev. Richard Humphries will officiate. Burial will follow the service at Jackson Creek Baptist Church. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 5 until 7 o'clock, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia.

Serving as pallbearers will be Ryan Ariail, Michael Corley, James Fisher, Stanley Ingram, Daniel Shrall, and Randy Spires. Special thanks to Dr. Woodrow Coker for his care and kindness.
