Mr. John Belton Jackson Sr., 83, of Columbia, died November 5, 2016. Born on October 17, 1933 in Great Falls, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Norman and Lennie Jackson.
Mr. Jackson was a graduate of Great Falls High School, Class of 1951, where he lettered in football. He served in the US Navy during the Korean conflict. Mr. Jackson owned and operated Jackson Distributors for Pet Milk and Little Debbie Cakes. Known as a jokester, he was an avid fisherman and loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Betty, children, John B. "Rocky" Jackson, Jr. (Joan), Diane Jackson Boyd (Mike), Van Jackson (Sherrie), and Lynn Jackson Williamson (Mike); eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Minnie Neely and Susan Carter; and his beloved dogs, Sammie and Minnie. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Michael D. Williamson, II; one brother, Bobby Jackson; and two sisters, Mary Ramsey, and Norma Lee.
Mr. Jackson's service will be held 5 o'clock, Thursday, November 10th at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road, Columbia. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 4 o'clock.
A lover of animals, especially dogs, it is suggested that memorials be made to the Humane Society, 121 Humane Ln, Columbia, SC 29209.
