Obituary
Mr. John Meredith Jennings, 66, of Columbia, died Thursday, July 27, 2023. A son of the late Kathleen L. Jennings and Sydney M. Jennings, he was born on December 9, 1956 in Honolulu, Hawaii.
John graduated from Eau Claire High School in 1975, where he played basketball, football, and baseball. He earned his bachelor's degree in education in 2006 and later received his master's degree from University of South Carolina in 2016. He taught in the SC Department of Juvenile Justice school system for many years. He later taught at Longleaf Middle School before retiring in 2021.
John was known as a huge USC Gamecock and Atlanta Braves fan. He was very passionate about education and instilled that passion in his daughter. He was a devoted father and educator who will be missed dearly.
He is survived by his daughter, Tiffany Jennings; grandson, A.J. Woodward; son-in-law, Jacob Gotcher, all of Vilonia, AR; and sister, Celia Bolton (Jack) of Greenville, SC.
In lieu of flowers, his family requests you make a donation in his honor to a charity of your choosing.
The family will host a private memorial service for Mr. Jennings. Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
